Alexander Group makes the move to Electric with Volvo Trucks

Alexander Group Ltd, in partnership with Volvo Trucks New Zealand, has expanded its transport fleet to include their first electric truck, a Volvo FL Electric. This proud milestone was celebrated recently at Volvo Trucks flagship showroom in Christchurch.

Alexander Group is a major transporter of bulk gases across New Zealand. CEO Hayley Alexander explained the decision in choosing of the Volvo FL Electric, " Our customers increasingly expect more sustainable transport options, and this step reflects our long-term commitment to reducing environmental impact. Volvo’s proven reliability and advanced technology made them the ideal partner for this important milestone.”

EECA has also helped make this introduction of an electric solution possible with their funding support through their Low Emissions Heavy Vehicle Fund”.

This 4x2 rigid electric truck will be delivering and collecting compressed gas cylinders in the Christchurch metropolitan area for Air Liquide New Zealand Limited. With 265kw (300hp) and a 280km range on a single charge (based on the planned delivery schedule and route optimisation plan). The unit has a custom-built Fruehauf gas bottle truck body with a 1,500 kg tail lift.

Jump Charging Ltd has delivered the charging infrastructure for Alexander Bulk Gases at their Christchurch site, 21 Epsom Road in Sockburn, where the unit will be based. The solution consists of a Zerova DW Series 30kW DC Charger

Alex Watson, Jump Charging CEO says, “This is an economical, fit-for-purpose solution designed to provide reliable overnight charging. Beyond installation we will provide ongoing support to ensure dependable performance and enable the future growth of their (Alexander Group) electric operations.”
