When customers deal with Simon Wilson they’ll be impressed by his deep understanding of the ‘whole-of-life’ package offered by a new truck. Simon started his transport career as a Grade A diesel mechanic and joined Truckstops Palmerston North dealing mostly with breakdowns in the field. He quickly worked his way up to workshop foreman before moving roles to become the first technical rep for Hino Distributors NZ. His time with Hino included problem-solving technical issues for customers and passing on the latest technical advances from brand headquarters in Japan to the New Zealand Hino service network. Simon became technical manager and went on to manage the Hino technical and warranty department and oversee the mod centre.
Now, as the most recent addition to the Volvo Truck sales team, there’s no question of the value Simon offers. His thorough understanding of a new truck from factory to handover; clear view of customer needs during the sales and aftersales period; and technical ability to deliver a custom truck leveraging the 2000 variant options and sub options offered by the Volvo brand.
Covering the lower North Island from New Plymouth across to Gisborne and below, Simon is keen to get back on the road to meet customers. “I’m looking forward to new challenges that will come with being in a sales role. After 20 years in the transport industry I’ve got a strong technical background and clear understanding of customer needs across a wide range of industries. This will put me in a good position to add value when it comes to specifying and delivering the right truck for every customer.”
