Trucks

General Manager, Volvo Trucks NZ

Rob is an experienced heavy transport professional who has spent almost 20 years working for one of the largest automotive groups in his native South Africa. Imperial Logistics is currently responsible for one in three of all car rental transactions, 40% of market in passenger vehicles, and around 10,000 heavy trucks in the country.

Leadership came early to Rob. He was made Dealer Principal for Mitsubishi Cars in his mid-20s before quickly moving over to heavy transport. In the years that followed, Rob held Franchise Director roles at both Freightliner and Hino trucks. Since his move to New Zealand in 2017, Rob has worked for Iveco and Isuzu trucks. He joined Sime Darby Motors NZ (MTD’s parent company) in 2021 and was quickly the forerunner in a strong field of internal and external candidates for the role at MTD. Rob brings invaluable leadership and heavy transport experience to our well-established MTD team.

“I’m excited and proud to be working with two premium, top-quality brands like Volvo Trucks and Mack. We have a very strong team of people at MTD with great technical credentials and well-established relationships throughout the transport industry.”

When he’s not working, Rob makes the most of New Zealand’s wide-open spaces. He’s a motorbike enthusiast, and a keen fisherman and hunter.  “I miss the African bush and animals I grew up with, but the Kiwi scenery is magnificent.  I love the freedom that comes with living here.”
