Rigid, but flexible

The Volvo FE chassis can be configured for almost any superstructure. Robust and rigid, the square, flat design makes for easy bodybuilding and a solution that satisfies even the most demanding of operations. Plus, improved chassis packaging for Euro 6 means the Volvo FE is unaffected by the stricter emission requirements.

Less time with the bodybuilder

Order your Volvo FE and the bodybuilder can log into Volvo Bodybuilder Instructions right away. Using the exact specifications and 3D drawings on the system, work can begin even before the truck has left the factory. So delivery is faster, and more cost-efficient, too.

Fast, easy loading

The Electronic Control System (ECS) can be used to control the air suspension levelling, via switches on the dashboard or a control box. This means quick, efficient loading at any height.

State-of-the-art suspension

Get a smooth drive guaranteed. Choose from mechanical cab suspension, with coiled springs and shock absorbers at both front and rear. Or full air cab suspension, which features bellows at both front and rear.

Electronic Brake System (EBS)

The Volvo FE uses pneumatic brakes with ventilated discs front and rear. Its Electronically controlled Brake System (EBS) provides faster and safer braking response and helps reduce brake wear. The system includes ABS and a Brake Blending system that uses the truck’s various brakes to promote uniform braking and reduce tyre and brake wear. The extended EBS package also includes a Hill Hold feature.

The Flexible Chassis

Tailor-made, prepared or standard

The Volvo FE chassis can be ordered with a standard layout. But if you really want to make it easy for the bodybuilder you can order it with the preparation kit or even completely adapted to fit your specific needs.

For special applications

The chassis can be specially adapted for specific applications such as refuse transporters, tankers and cranes. Components like fuel and AdBlue tanks are repositioned in order to optimise the chassis.

Rear axles

Four different rear axles are available in various combinations. The load capacity range stretches from 13 to 23 tonnes.

Trailing axles

Choose between two types of trailing axles – a fixed tag axle with single or double wheels, or a hydraulically steered tag axle with single wheels. Both designs feature the option of a lift function when running unloaded.

Frame height

There are two frame section heights of 266 mm and 300 mm with a frame thickness of 7 or 8 mm available depending on model.

Frame inner liner

On three-axle vehicles there is an inner liner to reinforce the area around the rear axles’ installation.

Fuel tanks

Depending on your truck specification and special requirements, you can choose steel or aluminium fuel tanks with capacities between 160 and 630 litres.

Toolboxes

Fit your Volvo FE with two separate toolboxes to store load security straps and other equipment. The sizes are 55 litres and 125 litres respectively.

Side Underrun Protection

The reinforced, foldable Side Underrun Protection (SUP) comes as a factory fitted option. Designed by Volvo, it combines secure protection and easy serviceability.

Front axles

Maintenance-free front axles with maximum load capacity of 7.1, 7.5, 8.0 or 9.0 tonnes are available.
